"Investing in a Legacy" Capital Stewardship Campaign Q&A
"Investing in a Legacy is not primarily about giving money. It is mainly about seeking and obeying God. We will pray in groups, alone, in our meetings and in our homes. You will be asked to allow someone to pray for you and your family in your home. You will also be asked to pray for each person of our church to be hearing from, and following Christ. If you are married or have children in your home, then I encourage you to include all of them as they are able, in your process. I am so grateful and excited that we are able to be a part of this God sized task, as well as the celebration that is to follow." Pastor Dwaine Tilford.
How much are we seeking to raise?
The church's goal over the next three [3] years is to raise a total of $300 thousand over our regular giving.
As a church, we believe strongly in teaching and applying the biblical principles related to stewardship. Lifestyle stewardship is not just about "tithing" or "money"; it's recognizing that God's the Owner and we're the managers of all we are and have. Our time, talent & treasures are all affected by a stewardship lifestyle. So yes, there is a cost - a dollar amount, but even more importantly the cost of what it means to be fully devoted followers of Christ.
What kind of commitment will I need to make personally?
First and foremost, you need to commit yourself to pray. We're "investing in a legacy", believing God will provide whatever resources He calls on us to give. Again, all that we are and have is His. And, as good stewards, we're seeking to glorify Him to the best of our ability with all that He's given to us.
Your commitment to Him for Eastview will be what you feel led by His Spirit to give; of following His leading in ways that will definitely reflect a sacrifice on your part. It will require reassessing your spending and readjusting your priorities to meet God's call on your life. Regardless of the cost, God will enable us to carry out the commitment He's calling on us to make.
You will be asked to take part in committing what you feel led to give financially over the next three [3] years - whether this is a weekly, monthly, annual offering or a one-time gift.
How much will each family be expected to give?
The only expectation is that each family prays and seeks God's direction regarding what He would have you give. While the amounts will obviously be different for everyone, our hope is that each of us will take personal ownership of this project and give generously, even sacrificially.
A key phrase in our campaign is: Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.
So, my tithes will not apply towards this new project?
You may specify wherever you would like your offerings to go; however, we still must be able to support our day-to-day ministries, operations, mission efforts, etc. Part of lifestyle stewardship is understanding that sacrificial giving typically involves something above and beyond what we normally give. Our tithes are God's way of sustaining and growing the on-going ministries of His church; special offerings are God's way of paying for His projects.
Will I be asked publicly for a commitment?
No. Neither will your individual financial commitment be announced.
Do you think God will help me meet a financial commitment which right now seems beyond my means?
Yes, just as surely as He helps us in any area of life. A large financial commitment that is sacrificial often means large faith. A small financial commitment that is not sacrificial often, but not always, means little faith.
Where will financial commitments be made?
Most financial commitments will be made in church on First Fruits Sunday, October 28th.
When will I sign my card?
You will sign the card on First Fruits Sunday, October 28th.
Can we make a family financial commitment?
Yes, that is exactly what we are asking families to do.
Can I change my financial commitment later?
Yes, because the future for all of us is uncertain. Some of us will be blessed so that we can increase the financial commitment. Unfortunate circumstances beyond our control may force some of us to lower or cancel the financial commitment.
Will my financial commitment be a permanent investment?
Yes. Take the example of George W. Carroll, a wealthy philanthropist. He gave large sums to Baptist causes. After he had lost considerable wealth in depression years, he was viewing a building he helped construct. Someone said, "Aren't you sorry you gave all that money away?" He answered, "No, because all I kept for myself was lost, and only that which I gave away has been preserved." And so it may be in our lives. When the temporal things of life are gone, that which we have invested in Christ's cause will continue to flourish and bear fruit.
Who is leading the campaign?
Christ is leading us! And we also believe that each and every one of us counts in the success of this stewardship campaign. Since "every member's a minister" it takes our entire church to "build" Eastview. In addition, we have a steering committee to help with the "nuts & bolts" of the campaign details, such as prayer teams, special events and communication materials to keep everyone informed on our progress. The committee names are outlined and enclosed in the first newsletter.
What are the major campaign dates?
Over the next few weeks, Pastor Dwaine will present a special message series reinforcing biblical principles of lifestyle stewardship. We strongly encourage all of us to hear each message so we can better understand and respond to God's Word as it relates to giving & growing on this spiritual journey.
November 11th is the culmination of our Investing in a Legacy campaign. On this very special Celebration Sunday, you will be given the opportunity to record your three [3] year commitment over-and-above your regular giving. Details about this exciting day will be unveiled during the next few weeks; however, everyday is a major date - a day that each of us prayerfully seeks God's direction about our commitment and obedience to His leading in this journey.
